Doing Philosophy is a free-standing residential school course. In August, you will spend a week in Bath, where you will participate in seminars, attend lectures and analyse philosophical texts. You will engage in face-to-face philosophical discussion, an activity that is widely recognised as an integral part of the practice of philosophy. The aim of these activities is to help you develop skills which are fundamental to philosophy, and very important in any academic discipline, such as the ability to analyse and construct an argument, and to present it orally and in writing.

Before the school, you will receive a set book and a guide on how to prepare for your residential school. This preparation should take about 15 hours, and will enable you to make the most of your time in Bath from the very start. Moreover, you will consolidate what you have learnt at residential school by completing an End of Course Assignment after the school.

Doing Philosophy is a 10-point course at Level 2. You will have a choice of three different subject areas. Please follow the links on the left to find out more.

See the Courses and Qualifications website for a full description of this course and information about how to reserve a place or register. If you would like to talk to somebody about the course in more detail, please contact our Student Registration & Enquiry Service to talk to a study adviser.
