What form does the teaching take? The postgraduate foundation module Course taster for A850 |
(The information given on these pages complements the description on the courses and qualifications site.) Our MA Philosophy is a three-year part-time programme consisting of three modules. There are many reasons people might have for studying for this degree. One is to continue, and to deepen, their study of Philosophy done at undergraduate level. Another is to change to Philosophy from undergraduate study of another discipline (although, if you are thinking of doing this, we would advise you to prepare carefully for taking the course - see the advice in the 'Am I ready for the MA' section.) A third is to prepare for further graduate work in Philosophy (and doing an MA is the best such preparation). Our MA aims to provide a course that will satisfy all these demands. The MA programme consists of a Postgraduate Foundation Module, a Subject Module and a Dissertation Module. The overall aim of the MA is to teach some key areas of philosophy at the appropriate level and to provide students with the skills needed for independent postgraduate study. The skills taught will include those of finding and evaluating material, critical reading, and writing philosophy at postgraduate level.
